Practice Makes Perfect…District Spelling Bee 2018
It’s Wednesday, January 24. You could feel the tension in the room...hearts were thumping...palms were sweating...parents were feeling nervous as their children anxiously awaited their turn at the microphone. One-by-one, the sound of the bell meant another contestant was out of contention. Tears often flowed and hugs greeted them as students had to take a seat in the audience. Round after round, the pool of participants became smaller as the words became more difficult. It came down to the final contestant. The word that needed to be spelled correctly was “harfang.” The pressure was on. If he spelled his word correctly, he would become the winner. He took a breath and spelled out "H-A-R-F-A-N-G, harfang."
